Ah, June! Finally here! It is time to celebrate all our colours, carry all of them with pride!

Do you know why we celebrate Pride in June? It all started in 1969, when the stonewall riots took place. But what are the stonewall riots? The Stonewall Riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by LGBTQI+ community in response to a Police raid that began on June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn, Greenwich. The anti-gay system, assimilation of gay people into society etc. influenced the fight back, sparked an upraising that would launch a resistance and revolution. Mother of Pride Brenda Howard coordinated the first LGBT Pride March in June 1970 and it became an annual celebration.

So since then every year in June, in everywhere we are celebrating who we really are. Without a shame, to encourage others who can’t open up yet. We are all here to smash up those ugly closets, because who needs them when we have IKEA racks that we can just show off. Put on some glitter, wear your fanciest shirt, and do not forget to bring all your colours. We are here, and even if you are not here yet just know we are waiting for you.
